Children do not learn in the same way. Yet, for decades, education systems have tried
to teach them as if they do. In Bangladesh, primary education has long focused on a
narrow understanding of intelligence, mainly reading, writing, and arithmetic. As a
result, many children grow up believing they are weak, incapable, or less intelligent,
even when they possess strong abilities in creativity, movement, empathy, problem
solving, or practical life skills.
This book presents a broader and more inclusive understanding of intelligence at the
primary level. It draws on the idea that children demonstrate intelligence in many
forms, shaped by culture, environment, emotion, curiosity, and lived experience.
Using real examples from Bangladeshi classrooms, homes, and communities, the
book explains how teachers, parents, and stakeholders can recognize and nurture
diverse intelligences among children.
Rather than remaining theoretical, the book provides practical classroom strategies,
assessment ideas, and community based approaches that work within the realities of
Bangladesh. It emphasizes dignity, inclusion, and child centered learning. The
ultimate goal is to help educators move from a system that labels children to one that
understands them, supports them, and allows every child to grow with confidence
and purpose.
